BESTWAY TO GET FEAR TO
SHUT UP FOR AMOMENT
“Maybe your training focuses on
technique, which is important, but
learning to understand your mind is
what really leads to breakthroughs.
Imagine you’re a company with 10,000
employees speaking inside your
head—each one telling you to do
this or that. In skiing, sometimes the
employee talking the most is Fear. The
key is to honor Fear and listen to what
it has to say; then, when you’re ready,
shi to a more effective voice. These
might include Yes on the groomers
or Aggression on a steepmogul pitch.
You don’t want to ignore Fear, but let
other voices speak too.”

counselor
MOST PHOTOGENIC CHAIRLIFT
“I’ve shot many Instagramphotos
from
CHAIR 6 AT ALYESKA
in
Girdwood, Alaska, where I spent a lot
of time growing up. You can see the
whole valley fromup there, including
seven glaciers and the Cook Inlet
below. Stunning.”
Elyse Saugstad,
former Freeride
World Champion who appears in the
all-female ski movie

BEST PLACE IN AMERICA TO
FEEL LIKE A EUROPEAN
“One of the great things about Europe
is the huts you can ski or snowshoe
to. The
HUTS & TRAILS SYSTEM
in
westernMaine is probably the closest
thing you’ll find to that type of
experience in the U.S. It’s a 50-mile-
long trail with four gorgeous cabins
sca ered along the way. Once you
arrive you get a warmbed, a shower
and these wonderful homemade
meals. It’s near Sugarloaf ski resort, so
you can do some downhill skiing, too.”
Nina Silitch,
U.S. Ski Mountaineering
champion, recently moved to New
Hampshire after 12 years in France
